Ladder Maintenance Document

COMAR Ladder Maintenance Best Practices. All COMAR ladders are USCG, SOLAS, and ABS approved and exceed IS testing standards. COMAR ladders are manufactured using only the highest quality materials in production including synthetic molded steps, galvanized steel frames, patented COMAR wedge assembly, chemically bonded tread surface, custom Samson rope with 14,000 pound working load limit, and more. COMAR ladders are built to last, but should still be inspected before each use. When not in use, it is always best to stow away the ladder in a dry and well ventilated space, preferably covered and off the ground. When moving or relocating a ladder, roll it up and lift using the side ropes only, never the spreaders. COMAR ladders must be secured using strong points and shackles rated to at least the same breaking strength as the side ropes of the ladder. Retrieval lines should be attached to the side ropes below the lowest spreader, never to the spreader itself. COMAR ladder steps and spreaders should be kept clean, free from oils or grease, and never painted. Replacement steps and spreaders are available for purchase as needed. Each pilot ladder is allowed up to two total replacement steps and one replacement spreader. Vessels must always have a valid COMAR ladder certificate onboard. Please keep this document in an easy to access location for all crew members involved in the rigging and care of ladders. COMAR Ladder 30 Month Testing Information.
