COMAR Ladder Maintenance Best Practices. All COMAR ladders are USCG, SOLAS, and ABS approved and exceed ISO testing standards. Ladders are manufactured using high quality materials including synthetic molded steps, galvanized steel frames, patented COMAR wedge assemblies, chemically bonded tread surfaces, and custom Samson rope rated to approximately 14,000 pound working load. Ladders should be inspected before each use. When not in use, store in a dry, well ventilated location, preferably covered and off the ground. When moving a ladder, roll it and lift using the side ropes only. Never lift by the spreaders. Ladders must be secured using strong attachment points and shackles rated at least equal to the ladder rope strength. Retrieval lines must be attached to side ropes below the lowest spreader, never to the spreader itself. Steps and spreaders must remain clean, free of oils or grease, and must not be painted. Replacement parts are available. Pilot ladders are limited to two replacement steps and one replacement spreader. COMAR Ladder 30 Month Testing: Pilot ladders must be returned every 30 months per ISO 799-1:2019. Debarkation ladders must be returned every 30 months per ISO 5489:2024. If damage such as bent steps, worn rope, or exposed internal structure is observed, contact Coast Marine and Industrial Supply for repair or replacement.
